The Impact of Education on the Economic and Social Development in Palestine

This study aims at investigating the impact of education on the economic and social development in Palestine. The study approached the literature as a multi-dimensional phenomenon, which addressed both theoretical and applied research. The significance of this recent study is the first, which dealt with this theme, to the author knowledge, which in turn encourages other researchers to work on further research on this important issue.

To achieve this end, the study adopted the quantitative research approach using the time series extending years (2000-2018) method. The collected data was statistically analyzed using the statistical package for social sciences (SPSS).

The study results revealed significant positive impact of education on the per capita gross domestic product; and on the number of reported crimes. The study results also revealed significant inverse impact of education on the per capita gross domestic product; and on the inflation rate. However, no statistical significant impact were found of education on the unemployment rate, and on the number of cases of murder and attempted murder.

In light of the findings and discussion, the study recommend, to provide a qualitative education that enables students to acquire the necessary skills, values, and knowledge to ensure sustainable educational development; integrate the education process with training, to enhance individual education and its link to the labor market, and to focus on educational curricula on educational developmental, since education is an essential component in the local comprehensive development.
